Workplace Productivity

ree

Productivity refers to the ability or the capacity to perform well and produce more outputs. In a much simpler term, it refers to the ability to do hard work. Our schools and colleges prepare us and instill in us this skill so we can be productive in our workplaces. However, productivity is more of an art than a skill or ability. Just like art, over the period, one learns to do better, be more productive, and try different ways to be productive helping them find the one most suited for them.

But there are some basic ways in which one can ensure work productivity. There are some ways in which the employer can ensure that the output generated by the company is productive and provide an environment that is both goal-directed, interesting, and engaging.

To do so the employer may use the following techniques:

1. They can ensure clear communication between the employees and team members.

Work can get hectic when the goals or key aspects of the work assigned are not demarcated and there is a constant revision of work with negative feedback. This reduces the productivity. Thus, the employer must provide an environment of free and open discussion that enables the employees to understand the work and goal of the company thus working towards it.

2. Clear goals

The employer must provide the members of the company with a clear goal. Goals drive us to engage in behavior that leads to achieving them; thus, these goals must be made crystal clear. This would ensure that the employees would engage in activities that would lead to achieving those goals and there would be a sense of achievement.

3. Flexible time arrangements and schedules

Sometimes working continuously can lead to burnout which in turn affects our productivity. The employer should ensure that the schedule and the work arrangements are flexible enough for the employees to take enough rest and balance their personal and professional lives.

Working should not become a burden but should rather be something one is willing to do. One's interest in doing something leads to high productivity, thus, I believe that it is highly important that the workspace should have a positive and friendly environment. One should be allowed to work at one's own pace and capacity. This becomes an art, the different manifestation of the same thought. The idea of productivity is different for people yet the goal remains the same.
